Facts About the Masters Golf Tournament

 

The Masters Golf Tournament was founded by Bobby Joes. This prestigious golf tournament is conducted very year at Augusta National golf club in Augusta, Georgia and is considered as one of golf’s four majors.

 

The 2009 Masters Golf Tournament  held at Augusta National is scheduled on April 6-12th. This year, golf fans will find out whether or not the defending Masters champ, Zach Johnson will still top the tournament. At the top of the list is the legendary Jack Nicklaus who had won the most coveted Green Jacket as Masters champion for six times. He won his first Masters in 1963 while he had his last Masters victory in 1986. He was also champion in 1965, 1966, 1972, and 1975. In addition, he also garnered four runner-up finishes. Moreover, Nicklaus earned 15 Top 5 finishes, 22 Top 10 finishes, and 29 Top 25 finishes.  

 

Second in rank is the youngest ever to win a Masters, Tiger Woods. He already has four Masters victories and the record holder for the scoring record of 270. He also earned another record for winning by 12 strokes in 1997.

 

Next in line at third place is Arnold Palmer. He was considered as the first golfer to win the Masters four times. He won back in 1958, 1960, 1962, and 1964. He also won wire-to-wire in 1960 and was runner-up for two times. In addition, he had nine Top 5 finishes and had played the Masters for 50 consecutive years. He started playing the Masters in 1995 and stopped last 2004.

 

Our fourth placer is Sam Snead who won the Masters three times. Known as Slammin’ Sam in the golf course, he was Masters champion back in 1949, 1952, and 1954. Furthermore, he was the first champ to wear the traditional Green Jacket given to the Masters’ champion. Snead also finished second twice and earned for himself nine Top 5 finishes, fifteen Top 10 finishes, and was in the Top 25 for 26 times.

 

The fifth in rank is none other than Gary Player. He went down Masters history as the first non-American to win the Masters when he won the title last 1961. After which, he was also champion back in 1974 and 1978. He finished at second place twice with 15 Top 10 finishes and 22 Top 25 finishes.
